12U Baseball Rules

EWA 12U League Rules

  1. No new inning starts after 90 minutes. The started inning will be completed unless the visiting team completes their at bat and have less runs than the home team.

  2. An inning is complete when a defensive team records three outs or the offensive team has scored 7 runs, whichever occurs first. A team's lineup is based on the number of players they have, not based on the number of players on the opposing team.

  3. Courtesy runners can be used for pitchers and catchers at any time. Catchers must remain in the game to play as a catcher. Catchers must use a courtesy runner when there are two outs. Must use the last batted out.

  4. Fake bunting then swinging away is permitted.

  5. Teams can start and play a game with 8 players. Players arriving after game time may enter the game at any time and the player must be placed last in the batting order. If you have less than 9 players, the 9th batter position is a recorded out. If a player leaves during a game or is injured, his at bat will be skipped without a called out.

  6. The infield-fly rule is in effect.

  7. There is one balk warning per team per game. After the warning, balks are called as they occur. The dropped third strike does not apply.

  8. A pitcher cannot pitch more than 6 innings in a week.

  9. A pitcher must be pulled if three batters are hit during the game; a pitcher pulled for hit batters cannot return to pitch later in the same game. The pitcher must be pulled on the 2nd trip to the mound in the same inning. A pitcher may re-enter the same game unless he was pulled due to 2nd trip in same inning.

  10. Coaches on the field (i.e. inside the fair lines) at any time during an inning count as a mound visit.

  11. Players must attempt to avoid contact. A Player can be called out if contact is not avoided; this is a judgment call by the umpire. There are no sliding method rules except at home plate. On any play at home plate, players must slide feet first and avoid a collision with the catcher. The catcher may block the plate only if he has the ball.

  12. Lead offs are allowed. Players may advance on overthrows from the catcher back to the pitcher.

  13. Bats may not exceed 33” in length, and the bat barrel may not exceed 2 ¼” in diameter. Only 2 ¼” barrel non-wood bats marked BPF 1.15 will be used. No "softball bats" or Big Barrel Bats are permitted.
